House Fly
House flies are the most common flies found in homes, restaurants, and other buildings where humans and animals live. They have 4 narrow black stripes running down their back and are about 1/4 inch long.

Adult house flies lay eggs in animal and human manure, garbage, and decaying meat. They will breed in fresh garbage, wet flour and corn spills around food plants and elevators, grease pits and soggy food in a kitchen and other similar situations provide ideal conditions for these flies to reproduce.

Control
Because these flies breed so fast, sanitation is generally the most effective control. A few ideas for sanitation control of house flies is:
  1. Pick up garbage twice per week. Garbage cans should be clean inside. Keep tight covers on the cans and outdoor garbage cans and dumpsters should be kept as far as possible from doors that are used frequently.
  2. Inside of a restaurant, a large accumulation of food waste or garbage that stays moist is a highly potential breeding area. Keep these areas clean and dry as much as possible.
  3. On farms and elevators, if wet feed, corn or flour is out, either dry it up or clean it up. On farms, more flies can breed on wet, high protein feed than in manure.
Screen doors should can be installed on just about any door and are very cheap and very effective. House flies are attracted to light. If outside lighting is necessary, it is best to have lamps that can be mounted away from the building and shine on it. Another option is to switch to sodium vapor bulbs. This produces a light that is much less attractive to flies and other light attracted insects and is less expensive to use long-term.

At MaxPro, we recommend some of the above listed controls and if that doesn't help the problem, we have a proven system to greatly reduce the number of house flies you see using a combination of a few different types of baits that has great results reducing a house fly population.
